Lotgenoten Luncheon meeting

Have you ever wondered whether growing up or living in Japan or in the Netherlands, matters for our brain and thinking, and whether switching cultures affects your vary basic thinking patterns? Then the NCCJ is pleased to invite you to Lotgenoten on May 12, 2015.

You have surely experienced differences in customs, values and views between Japanese and other cultures. One can fill a library with books for managers about this topic. However, during the Lotgenoten lunch we will not focus on these, but rather on very basic thinking processes. We will discuss and experience with some mini experiments how there may be differences in memory, attention or even visual perception. What do you think are the advantages of these differences? How do they play a role in your work (as a manager, designer, architect, teacher)? Have you noticed any change in your basic thinking processes after living in another country for a while? Also, what could this mean for your children who grow up in different cultures? Would it matter for the brain?

Mariellle Gorissen-van Eenige PhD will facilitate the session. She is a Dutch registered Clinical Neuropsychologist who has been living in Tokyo for 7 years. She has her own practice “Tokyo Neuropsychologist” working mostly with children from bicultural families who have learning or behavior issues. She is an adjunct Associate Professor at Temple University Japan.

This event is open to NCCJ members, employees of member companies and prospective members only.
Attendance is limited to 15 people to encourage maximum participation among participants.

What is LOTGENOTEN?
If you are not Dutch, you may wonder what is LOTGENOTEN? The official translation mentions “fellow sufferers” or “partners in misfortune”, albeit with a smile; we prefer to talk about “Partners in Circumstance”. Everybody faces challenges in Japan. It would seem to make sense to learn from each others’ successes as well as failures and hopefully speed up the learning curve. That is what LOTGENOTEN is all about.

Giving Back To Japan - The Road Towards Reconstruction

In collaboration with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (CCCJ), the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce in Japan (NCCJ) is pleased to invite you to the 3rd edition of Giving Back To Japan.

Event Overview
Four years ago, Japan's northeastern coast was devastated by a magnitude 9 earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent nuclear accidents. Lives were lost, cities destroyed, and local industries and businesses were crippled. Indeed, 3/11 is a date that has been etched into the minds of people in Japan and around the world. Despite the tragedy, and damage, Tohoku, and Japan is on the road to reconstruction. On March, 11th 2015, the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce in Japan and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan will celebrate efforts for reconstruction, and giving back to Japan with a special event showcasing a variety of projects in the affected region. The Orandajima House was initiated and built by the Orandajima Foundation as an after school facility-community centre for the children and people of Yamada-machi. This town in the Northern province of Iwate has a long relationship with the Netherlands going back to 1643 when a Dutch ship stranded there. This after school facility for the children of Yamada-machi was designed pro-bono by architect Martin van der Linden with wood donated by Canada Wood. This is a great example of countries coming together to support Tohoku, in this case with Dutch companies spearheading the project and Canada supplying the lumber and Japanese and other Europe based companies acting as donor in kind. Key financial support came from the member companies of the NCCJ and other Japan & Netherlands friendship organizations. Please join the NCCJ and the CCCJ in celebrating Japan's reconstruction on March 11th, 2015.

The NCCJ is honored to have H.E. Mr. Radinck Jan VAN VOLLENHOVEN, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Japan.

The invitation is extended to members of foreign chambers of commerce in Japan and other organizations. Non-members and guests are all welcome.

For each paying guest we will donate 1,000 yen to support Tohoku reconstruction initiatives as determined by the CCCJ and NCCJ

End of the Year Drinks 2014

NCCJ members are invited to the End of the Year Drinks to be held on 10 December at the Netherlands Embassy. The event is organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in cooperation with the NCCJ. Mr. Harold Meij, COO of Takara Tomy will speak about Japanese and Dutch business culture, followed by a short introduction of JMEC and drinks to celebrate the end of 2014.
