Event Overview

With the digitization of our world, data has become a key asset for the economy and our societies. Governments and companies are required to constantly adapt to this digitization. In September 2015, the Japanese Parliament enacted an amendment to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information which sets new conditions for handling data in order to align the applicable schemes with international practices and new technologies. The Amended Act will be implemented within two years and inter alia establish limitations for the transfer of data outside of Japan without the consent of the data owner. This seminar will explain the key changes and their practical impact companies need to be already aware of. As of January 1, 2016, Japan has moreover introduced a personal identification number system called “MyNumber” to be used in various areas, such as social security administration, taxation, and disaster response. The speakers will highlight what companies need to consider when handling “MyNumber” information.
